The hills of Paris

The hill of Montmartre and the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont are two distinctly arty places that are very popular with Parisians. The first is, of course, famous for the Sacré-Coeur Basilica and its steps, but also for its popular Rue des Abbesses and its Place du Tertre where you can enjoy a bowl of cider while watching the street artists at work. However, the most beautiful view of Montmartre is probably the one seen from the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont. This former quarry received a complete makeover in the mid-19th century and became a public park filled with waterfalls and grottos, ponds, charming follies and even a Roman-style temple. The stepped lawns are particularly inviting for an aperitif with friends and offer a wonderful vantage point from which to admire the superb view.

Other facets of Paris 

The eastern arrondissements of Paris boast a wealth of interesting places full of personality, but visitors only tend to discover them by chance or if guided there! The Rue Dénoyez in Belleville, for example, has since the 2000s become an open-air studio for graffiti artists whose often inspired works adorn the walls. A few hundred metres away, the Rue Oberkampf offers a vibrant and good-natured aspect that hides some intriguing secrets. The old artisan communities of Durmar and Figuier are situated there. Enter these small streets to discover another world that is evocative of the past and very... arty!
