For two days over the third weekend of September, the 21st and 22nd this year, the whole country gets caught up in the excitement of the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days). Paris is particularly involved, hosting dozens of initiatives from the most impressive to the most unusual. Here, the Chess Hotel presents our idea of the ideal Heritage Days experience...
Some Heritage Days highlights
For the perfect Heritage Days, you first need some of the most inspiring institutions in Paris, such as places of power not usually open to the general public. So, let's start with the National Assembly and the Bank of France, before going behind the scenes at the Ministries of Finance, Culture, Agriculture and Foreign Affairs. Let's add a little classical culture with a visit to the exquisite Museum of Romantic Life or an astonishing guided tour of the Cluny Museum of the Middle Ages. The weekend offers great opportunities to discover or rediscover the numerous masterpieces housed in the capital’s most interesting museums.
Unusual and entertaining
But the Heritage Days are also an opportunity to access unusual places and learn from specialists passionate about their professions. So, let's go meet the conservators of the National Archives, the potters of the Atelier de Céramique Saint-André Perrin or the watchmakers of Bucherer, the world’s largest watch and jewellery store. You and your partner or family can also participate in fascinating workshops to make your cultural weekend even more memorable.
