The Louvre, Orsay, Musée Rodin, or Marmottan, there are plenty of places to admire the works of the great masters in Paris. Yet, you’ll also find original exhibitions at equally prestigious if less well-known venues – there’s a lot to discover this spring.
Pissarro to Eragny
The Luxembourg Museum invites you to immerse yourself in the life and creativity of the Impressionist painter Camille Pissarro. Thanks to a loan from Claude Monet, Pissarro bought a property in Eragny-sur-Epte in the Oise in 1884. He lived there until his death in 1903, and it was there, far from the bustle of Paris, that he produced most of his best paintings. The exhibition, which will be held from March 16 to July 9, brings together a hundred paintings, engravings and drawings with many personal objects from this happy period in the painter’s life.
When the automobile becomes the subject of art
The Cartier Foundation proposes that we completely revise our view of the car with an exhibition entitled Autophoto from 20 April to 24 September at its premises in Montparnasse. Through 400 works by 80 contemporary photographers, the two curators of the exhibition explore the relationship between the car and the photo. The beauty of its curves, its reflective surfaces, its unique shapes and forms, and an object of fantasy and desire, the car lends itself perfectly to the creativity of notable photographers such as Lee Friedlander, Jacques-Henri Lartigue or Rosângela Renno. The show is also a chance to reflect on the place the automobile occupies in society and how it has changed our habits and our environment.
