Once again, Paris will head to Porte d'Auteuil for a fortnight. The famous Roland-Garros tournament will resume its right to impose its rhythm on the whole capital from 22 May to 11 June – much to the delight of tennis fans.
A mythical stadium
Everyone has an anecdote about the Roland-Garros or a special habit that he sticks to for the event. Some will tell you about Yannick Noah’s victory, Michael Chang's famous spoon service, Agassi's denim shorts, or Nadal's exploits. Others prefer to tell of the good humour of spectators as courts are covered and rain interrupts a tight game for the umpteenth time. Or, of the fashionably elegant fans who roam the alleys of the stadium in panamas and tennis whites. A player’s joking remark or a legendary win – what will be your anecdote for 2017?
Roland-Garros – the practical side
The best way to reach the Roland-Garros stadium is by metro. The Chess Hotel is a just a stone's throw from the metro station and line 9 which will take you directly to Porte d'Auteuil in about 20 minutes. Take advantage of this short trip to discover the Bois de Boulogne, with its long tree-lined paths and lawns, and sites such as the Jardins de Bagatelle, Jardin d'Acclimatation and the brand new Fondation Vuitton. The Renault Museum, Paul Belmondo museum, and the Marmottan museum that is dedicated to Monet are all nearby – what better than a combination of sport and culture in one of the city’s most exclusive areas? Finally, to ensure that you don’t miss an important match, reserve your tournament tickets in advance at the French Open online ticket office before booking your stay at the Chess Hotel.
